The Wedding

The wedding will be styled to reflect a traditional Indian Catholic ceremony. Although, in respect to tradition, there will be a number of events wherein elders from both sides will visit one another’s houses, both the families will shop together for the wedding rings and costumes, and many other such celebrations and/or rituals,  they are rather small scale and involves only the immediate family members.

The two major events are the betrothal and the marriage. A synopsis of the events may be stated so you know what to expect in them.

Betrothal: The responsibility of this ceremony traditionally rests with the bride’s family. This event will be conducted in the Church and the venue chosen is St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, Ernakulam. It is scheduled on 11th August 2012 at 11:30 am. Under the direction of the celebrant, there will be an exchange of vows and the groom will put  a ring on the finger of the bride. This will be followed by the Holy Mass. After the Holy Mass, there will be a reception arranged at the adjoining Parish Hall, where lunch will be served.

Marriage: The responsibility of this ceremony traditionally rests with the groom’s family. The venue chosen for the event is Holy Ghost Forane Church, Muttuchira and is scheduled on 18th August 2012 at 11:00 am. The marriage will be conducted as part of a Catholic Wedding Mass. The major wedding rites would include an exchange of vows, the blessing and exchange of rings followed by tying of the sacred thread bearing the wedding pendant around the bride’s neck by the groom and the presentation of the manthrakodi (a saree gifted by the groom’s family to the bride) The priest then blesses the couple and declares them as man and wife. Following the Holy Mass, there will be a reception arranged at the adjoining Parish Hall, where lunch will be served.

Reception (Invitees only): There will be a further reception for close family members and friends and as such which will be by invitation only. It is an evening dinner reception and will be held in Le Meridien, Kochi on 19th August, 2012 from 7pm to 10:30pm.

The dress code for all the events is of course formal. We strongly recommend that you attend the ceremonies right from the start. It will be a wonderful experience, especially for those who have never attended an Indian (Kerala) Catholic Wedding.

And hey, be sure to check this space out later on for the snaps.
